How do I register?

You must fill out a registration form and send in your registration fee.

Because of high demand, we limit participation to about 80 women each year. That allows more opportunity to ride trails and less impact on the park. Registration is taken on a first-come, first served basis. In 2001, we had such a high demand, that more than 40 women put their names on our waiting list.

Registration forms are available now! You can download the form from our Registration Page! Registration forms will also be available by calling 208-691-3149.

So what do I get for my money?

We're so glad you asked. You'll get personalized attention in a small group setting.

The two-day, all-women mountain biking event is geared toward beginning and intermediate riders. Each summer, friends and volunteers provide a supportive, fun atmosphere where women can work on their riding and bike mechanic skills.

You'll get to camp near the shores of scenic Lake Pend Oreille and make great friends. On top of that, you'll get

bulletincreased self confidence and skills
bulletfour catered meals plus snacks
bulletfree back massages
bulleta stylin' T-shirt
bulletswag bags filled with goodies
bulletraffle prizes (in the past we've raffled off bikes and season ski passes!)

How do I know if I'm registered?

We will notify you by mail that your registration form has been processed and you are signed up for Skurtzendirt.

Do you supply the bikes?

No. The best bike for you to learn on is your own, or one that fits you well. If you don't have a bike, remember to borrow one or rent one that isn't too big or too small for your body size. All the fancy shocks and pedals won't mean that much if you're uncomfortable.

How do I know my skill level?

Here are some good rules of thumb:

You're a beginner if:

bulletyou're unsure how to shift gears
bulletyou've never ridden on a trail before
bulletyou're intimidated by obstacles (like logs or rocks on the trail.)

You're an intermediate rider if:

bulletYou have some basic skill riding knowledge
bulletYou know the basics of shifting
bulletYou're comfortable over small obstacles
bulletYou still walk down steep descents

You're experienced if:

bulletYou're comfortable over larger obstacles
bulletYou find narrow trails fun
bulletYou can maneuver moderately on steep ascents and descents
bulletYou shift and position your body by instinct

Can my boyfriend or husband come to the event?

Unfortunately, no. Our weekend is limited to women participants only. But we highly encourage your loved one to join you on the trails after the event!

--------------------------------------------

What about kids?

Teenage girls ages 16 and 17 must have a permission slip filled out by their parents or guardians. Those under 16 must have an adult female guardian with them during the weekend. Unfortunately, we don't have space for day care for younger children at the event. Besides, you could use a weekend all to yourself!

Do you take credit cards?

No. Since we're a non-profit organization, we don't have the money to take credit card payments. But we take check and money orders. Just make them payable to Skurtzendirt Mountain Biking Association.

Who are your volunteers?

Some of the most excellent people in the Inland Northwest! Many of the volunteers have met through riding the trails themselves. Others work at bike shops in the area. In the past, we've had gnarly mountain bike instructors join us from Rossland, B.C.

Interested in volunteering? Contact our volunteer committee at volunteer@skurtzendirt.org or call 208-691-3149.

Do you have other events?

Unfortunately, no. We'd love to, but our volunteer efforts can only handle one event a year. However, if you're interested in other events or can't make it to ours, check out the following ones:

bulletSpokane Mountaineers in Spokane, Wash.
bulletRossland Mountain Adventures in Rossland, B.C.
